Helen Reed is the Occupational Health and Safety Manager for the Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service (TCHHS), but for the last 18 months she has been integral in emergency planning arrangements.

“I keep rural and remote Queenslanders safe in times of disaster by providing leadership and management for potential emergency situations,” says Helen.

“I love the fact I work across one of the largest geographical health services in Australia, and I get to see it all. The good, the bad and the beautiful.

“It is my responsibility to ensure emergency systems and processes are set up and used when needed to keep staff, patients and the broader community safe.

“My career with the Queensland public sector expands 10 years with Queensland Health in multiple health and safety roles, and 1 year with the Queensland Ambulance Service as their Work, Health and Safety Regional Advisor.

“I joined our state’s largest employer to make a difference by creating safer workplaces for the workers, and the potential career opportunities that it provides.

“Working for the sector is challenging, it requires innovative thinking, with opportunities for extraordinary professional and personal rewards.”

Outside of work, Helen is the Vice President of the Far North Emergency Services Association Inc. which facilitates a charity ball each year raising funds for the local community.

Helen loves to spend time reading or outdoors with her family and friends and always has her camera at the ready.
